Happy Beltane 2024

Hi everybody!

It has been a bustling spring over here at Nicole Hixon Art.

This photo is from a few weeks ago when I was a participating artist for Treecycle. Wickham Works commissioned me to make a piece that was interactive with the community and I jumped at the chance! Community, art making and repurposed materials?!?!? I’m in!!! It was a beautiful festival and the piece is awaiting Upstate Arts Weekend 2024, so you’ll get a chance to see it and possibly participate soon!

Another opportunity in bloom this spring has been the acceptance into the Sustainable Arts Program from the Orange County Arts Council. I have attended several seminars on artist identity, finance, support and marketing so far. Next week is all about support (which I can’t help to feel from my beautiful community! seriously though, have you seen it outside?!?) and then the Creative Impact Conference, at Storm King Art Center. There’s a lot of wonderful information, like starting a blog ;)

With all the exciting events coming up this summer I think this is a great way to share some of the behind the scenes and 1st hand experiences. Soooooooooo stay tuned!

btw Happy Beltane everyone! Did you do any rituals today like the Maypole? I used to love doing it in elementary school, which shouldn’t be shocking because I made crochet hooks to be wove on for Treecycle.

Hope you had the opportunity for sunshine on your face today!

Peace & love,

~Nicole
